"I joined the company in 2014, first in Customer Project Management for the Mining business stream and then in 2018 as the Operations Manager in the newly formed TOMRA Sorting Digital department. My office location is in Hamburg, Germany. Before TOMRA, I worked for MAN Ferrostaal in various functions to develop and execute large-scale EPC projects in the petrochemical industry, including project procurement, development, and construction site management with assignments in Texas and Trinidad & Tobago."
What is your role at TOMRA Food?
I am the Digital Operations Manager for TOMRA Food, Recycling, and Mining.
Why did you decide to work for TOMRA?
I am an engineer by trade and need to be invested with a product or service that I spend my time on. It didn't take much convincing with world-class sensor-based sorting equipment for essential everyday products; I knew this was the place for me.
What does your average workday look like?
There really is no average workday. I enjoy project-based business as topics vary significantly from day to day and month to month. Currently, we are focusing on rolling out TOMRA Insight for our customers in TOMRA Food. Challenges include process alignment, contractual topics, and technical details, so it really is a mixed bag.
What's the best thing about your job?
I enjoy bringing the pieces together to create something new and exciting, or as we say in TOMRA Sorting Digital: to connect the dots. Working on interfaces and aligning different interests can be tedious but very satisfying once you see it working.
What's the skill you'd most like to have?
Cook like a chef.
What are you passionate about professionally or personally?
Professionally: Quality over quantity. If you do something, go the whole nine yards.
Personally: I appreciate details, learning about new things and places, spending time with friends, and water sports (rowing, swimming, kite surfing, and sailing).
What's your favorite holiday destination?
I seldomly return to the same place as there is still plenty to explore. One of the most incredible trips I had so far was a 9,000 km road trip across South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. Other than that, I always like to visit the ocean for kite surfing and some vitamin sea.
What's your most notable business achievement?
One of the recent milestones was to put a contractual framework in place to deliver TOMRA Insight to our customers. Another one was the successful delivery of the largest customer project in the Mining business stream, which kept me busy for multiple years. Again, I believe it is not so much about singular items or achievements but rather the combination of experiences to create something more extensive.
What's your most outstanding personal achievement?
Finding and maintaining a balance between business and pleasure.
What did you eat for lunch?
Spicy chicken curry.
